It shouldn’t be a secret that for a long time, the United States, or rather, its controlling elites have been fully committed to tolerate and even assist the most criminal and fascist regimes around the world. Indeed, Hitler himself was seen with delight by the elites since he was a force against communists, according to them.
Let’s remember money, fame and power have their own set of morals and values when it comes to accumulate capital. In this regard, we must notice throughout history, our beloved corporations in the US have never had problem funding and aiding the the most brutal regimes of the planet. To illustrate this point we must remember cases like the creation of Fanta during the WWII by Max Keith, the chairman of Coca Cola in Germany to be able to make profit during the Nazi regime. In addition General Motors created Opel for the same Nazi market. The U.S. prohibited its companies to trade in Germany, but Coca Cola, Hugo Boss, IMB, Volkswagen, Siemens, Bayer, among other U.S. firms, could not resist the temptation of making profits even though that implied trading with a fascist regime that brutalized and murdered innocent people as it is stated in the book Wall Street and the Rise of Hitler by Antony Sutton. Even today it’s almost impossible to reveal this trading with the nazis without getting in trouble like in the case of comedian Russell Brand who after making a joke about Hugo Boss and its trading with the Nazis was expelled from the GQ awards [The Guardian Sep 13, 2013].
Like many other US companies, one company, ITT operated in Germany throughout the decade of the 1930s, ITT saw no ethical conflict in doing business within and assisting the Nazi regime. Probably ITT made payments to the notorious SS leader Heinrich Himmler in order to get protection on its assets in Germany. Important to mention, ITT’s communication services were in charge of providing direct support for the nazis during the war. Indeed, its German subsidiary owned 25% of the company that made fighter planes for the German Luftwaffe. Keep in mind these planes dropped bombs on London and on British and American troops [Business Ethics by R Spinello Early Ethical Controversies].
One very particular case of trading with enemy was Prescott Bush, father and grandfather of the two presidents Bush. Prescott Bush was part of the banking group that funded the nazi party and the uprising of the Third Reich whilst the nazi army was killing American soldiers and slaughtering Jews. Another case to highlight was Henry Ford, who so beloved by Hitler that in July 1938, four months after the German annexation of Austria, he accepted the highest medal that Nazi Germany could bestow on a foreigner, the Grand Cross of the German Eagle. And by the way, the following month, James Mooney, a senior executive for General Motors, also received a similar medal for his “distinguished service to the Reich.” But Henry Ford was especial for Hitler at the point that he kept a portrait of Henry Ford on his office wall [Washington Post Nov 30-1998]. Not surprisingly, up to this day, corporations keep breaking big profits out of conflicts and wars [DemocracyNow May 5-2014].
Some may say, those were corporations that were sucked by greed, we should not make responsible the US for those actions. Keep in mind, once the nazis were defeated and after the Nuremberg trials, the US, other powerful governments and the Vatican didn’t think twice to help surviving nazis. We know about operation paper clip, where nazis were hired by the US government itself. Also we had colonies such as Colonia Dignidad in Chile and Bariloche in Argentina [FP], where nazis were accommodated to continue a peaceful life away from prosecution. In German itself, the nazi police had been completely integrated into the SS by 1943 and after the war they kept serving in the regular German police [Gestapo / Quora]. This was not by accident, eventually this would be legitimized by Article 131 of the German Constitution in 1961. Furthermore, more than half of the leadership of the West German Justice Ministry were former members of the Nazi party [JPost Oct 11, 2016].
As we should know by now, the US kept helping other anti communist regimes such as Suharto, Franco and Pinochet, all of them responsible for thousand of assassinations of the so called communists. Just as an example, in Indonesia, the dictator Suharto killed at least 500 thousand people accused for being a “communist threat.” [NYT Sep 29, 2015]
