As usual, the United States government shows no interest in obtaining peace, in this case in Venezuela. Pro US-right wing “protesters” have been causing destruction and death in that country to project an illusion of a massive chaos to call for an international intervention – maybe a military intervention as many of these “protesters” have been calling for [La Iguana May 10-2014]. The U.S. attitude and actions signal our government is very eager to see how far these violent groups are willing to get, and has been funding the opposition to take the Venezuelan government down [Libre Red Feb 24-2015]
President Maduro in a clear intention to advance good relations with the U.S. despite its aggression, delegated Diosdado Cabello, President (Speaker) of the National Assembly of Venezuela, to dialog with U.S. authorities. Since the U.S. has vested interest in causing violence in Latin American countries to gain access to its resources, it denied the visa to Mr. Cabello alleging he gave money to Osama bin Laden (yes, like bin Laden didn’t have money from his businesses with the Bush family) [Denver Post Sep 12-2006]. In addition the U.S. secretary of State John Kerry, Roberta Jacobson, US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, along with the congress, have stated the Venezuelan opposition has opened the opportunity for dialog but that the government refused to advance it in a significant way [Res. 488 March 4-2014 / TrouthOut Apr 4-2014]. As it is known, as long as U.S. authorities keep validating the criminal faction of the opposition, they feel protected and they enhance their violence (Just take into account the crack down of Bahrein against protesters. Once the U.S. government stated some concern about those violations, the monarchy decreased their abuses and even allowed an independent investigation of human right rights violations [Democracy Now Jun 9-2014]). Of course, in Venezuela, the elite is not in the government but in the opposition. Since the first day, President Maduro offered open conversations with the right wing parties but these political groups refused to attend. It was after about a month, when almost 40 people had been killed that some opposition personalities finally felt pressure and assisted. Some say the opposition politicians that decided to go to the conversation with the government, went in a clear signal of gaining reconciliation and stoping the violence, but the events show differently [Ultimas Noticias May 19-2015].
First of all, the opposition groups have been behind the acts of violence causing more than forty deaths [La Iguana May 16-2014]. The problem has been the corporate media networks play a major role in a massive campaign to delegitimize the democratically elected Venezuelan government [La Iguana Apr 8-2014]. However, opinion polls show rejection from the majority of Venezuelans to the protests staged by the right wing factions and rather an increment in the approval of the government leadership, even on zones where the opposition dominates [TeleSur Abr 27-2014]. In addition, Venezuelans totally opposed any intervention from the US – the disapproval from the Venezuelans against the US is about 73% [Correo del Orinoco May 25-2014]. Despite the media’s portrayal of the situation as a national crisis, the public seem to understand the pro-US groups are behind the problems of shortage and violence in Venezuela. Week after week, the government puts in evidence the shortage of many items is provoked by the private distributors that hold their products in order to cause and environment desperation in the population [OjoPelao May 25-2014]. Furthermore, the protests keep taking place in a very few municipalities and only on the zones where the privileged reside. In addition, the financial cartels are also conspiring to destabilize the South American country. I should be noted Venezuela, despite this attacks even Wells Fargo and Merril Lynch have knowledge Venezuela’s economy is in good shape. Venezuela’s oil exports were $94B on 2013, and imports only $59.3B, the national reserves are at $22B and the economy has a surplus of 2.9% of GDP [Counter Punch Feb 17-2014].
In what it concerns the US, the congress approved an increment of funding to the opposition groups in Venezuela. Since Chavez came back in 2002 after a coup assisted by the US, the different government agencies have been sending about $5M yearly to the opposition factions [Congressional Budget 2014]. However since Maduro has proven to be more efficient than expected, now the congress has promised $15M to the right wing in Venezuela. We must be aware, this financial assistance is just the official funding – behind scenes, US agencies like the CIA and the NSA have been massively conspiring to weaken Maduro’s administration and its core supporters [RT Abr 21-2014] [Correo del Orinoco Jun 13-2014].
